General Questions

What is NanoShield Wisconsin?
NanoShield Wisconsin is the Fox Valley’s GoNano Certified Contractor for molecular surface protection. We use GoNano nanotechnology to refurbish aging roofs, permanently seal concrete surfaces, and protect wood from moisture and UV damage — all without replacement. Owner Derek Korth has over a decade of experience in the roofing and surface protection industry and serves homeowners and businesses across the Fox Valley, Green Bay, and Door County areas.

GoNano is a molecular treatment, not a surface coating. Traditional sealers and coatings sit on top of the material they’re protecting and peel, fade, or wash away within a few years. GoNano nano-particles are small enough to penetrate deep into the material itself — whether that’s asphalt shingles, concrete, or wood fibers — and create a permanent chemical bond from the inside out. The result is lasting protection that doesn’t require reapplication.

GoNano is backed by $1M+ in independent testing by UL (Underwriters Laboratories) and IBHS (Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety).

We serve a roughly one-hour radius around Appleton, including: Appleton, Neenah, Menasha, Oshkosh, Kaukauna, Little Chute, Kimberly, Combined Locks, De Pere, Green Bay, Sturgeon Bay, Door County, and surrounding Fox Valley and Fox Cities communities. Yes. GoNano has been categorized under OSHA standards as quickly biodegradable, with no bioaccumulation potential and no harm to aquatic organisms. It is safe for both human health and the environment. Every roof we restore also keeps approximately 2.5 tons of asphalt shingles out of landfills — making it a meaningful environmental choice as well as a practical one.

Yes. Every GoNano treatment comes with up to a 15-year warranty. If you’re not satisfied with the results of your treatment, we stand behind our work.

Roof Refurbishment

My roofer says I need a full replacement. Do I really?
Not necessarily. Research indicates that roughly 80% of roofs that receive replacement quotes are actually structurally sound — they’re experiencing chemical depletion, not structural failure. Over time, Wisconsin’s freeze-thaw cycles strip the maltene oils from asphalt shingles, causing granule loss and brittleness. This looks like a failing roof, but it’s actually a chemistry problem — and GoNano is designed to solve it.

GoNano nano-particles penetrate the asphalt matrix of your shingles at the molecular level. Once inside, the treatment:

1. Replenishes the maltene oils that Wisconsin winters strip from shingles, restoring flexibility
2. Permanently re-bonds loosened granules back to the shingle surface, reversing the granule loss that triggers inspection flags
3. Creates a hydrophobic barrier that repels water and moisture infiltration
4. Enhances resistance to UV, heat, and oxidation

The result is a permanent chemical change to the asphalt — not a coating that will wear off.

Based on independent scientific testing by the National Center in Environmental Technology and Electrochemistry (CNETE), GoNano adds 10 to 15 years of additional lifespan to an asphalt shingle roof. Results are best on roofs that are 0-20 years of age at the time of treatment — the younger the shingles, the more life extension generated.

GoNano roof treatment typically costs a quarter to a third of what a full replacement would run. The exact price depends on the size and condition of your roof — but for most Fox Valley homeowners, the savings are substantial. Your free evaluation includes a written estimate at no cost or obligation.

In many cases, yes. GoNano treatment reverses the granule loss and brittleness that commonly cause inspection flags. NanoShield provides written documentation of the treatment, and most home inspectors accept it as evidence of roof restoration. Results vary depending on the severity of your roof’s condition prior to treatment and the individual inspector.

GoNano-treated shingles qualify for Class 4 Impact Resistance certification under UL 2218 testing — the highest hail-resistance rating available for residential roofing. NanoShield provides documentation of this certification, which some insurance underwriters consider favorably when evaluating your policy.

However, whether this affects your specific policy, premium, or cancellation notice depends on your carrier and underwriter. We recommend speaking directly with your insurance agent to understand what applies to your situation. We can provide the documentation — we just can’t guarantee how any individual insurer will respond.

Note: One treatment typically earns Class 3 rating; two treatments earn Class 4.

GoNano works best on roofs that are chemically depleted but structurally sound. It is not appropriate for roofs with:

· Active leaks or water infiltration
· Structural damage to the roof deck or rafters
· Severely cracked, curling, or broken shingles throughout the field
· Advanced delamination of the shingle layers

If your roof has any of these conditions, Derek will tell you clearly during your free evaluation — and won’t recommend treatment that isn’t right for your situation.

A typical residential GoNano roof application is completed in one day. There is no tear-off, no dumpster, no heavy equipment on your property, and no disruption to your daily routine. Your family can be home during the treatment.

GoNano was developed specifically for asphalt shingle roofs — the most common roof type in Wisconsin. It is also effective on SBS (modified bitumen) membrane roofs. It is not designed for metal, tile, or slate roofing systems.
Granules are the colored mineral particles embedded in asphalt shingles. They serve as your roof’s first line of defense against UV radiation, hail, and moisture. When granule loss occurs — which you’ll notice as dark patches on shingles or granules accumulating in your gutters — your shingles lose that protection layer and begin deteriorating faster.

Granule loss is one of the most common reasons roofs fail home inspections and trigger insurance concerns. GoNano permanently re-bonds loosened granules to the shingle surface, directly reversing the process.

Concrete Sealants

Why does my driveway crack and pit every few years in Wisconsin?
The Fox Valley averages more than 100 freeze-thaw cycles per year. Concrete is porous, so water enters the surface, freezes, expands by roughly 9%, and splits the material from the inside. Road salt and de-icing chemicals make it worse — they lower the freezing point of water inside the concrete, causing this process to happen at even more vulnerable temperatures and accelerating deterioration. Standard acrylic and epoxy sealers help slow this down, but they sit on the surface and peel off in 2–3 Wisconsin winters.

Hardware store sealers film the surface of the concrete. They bond weakly, peel under Wisconsin freeze-thaw stress, and need to be reapplied every 1–3 years. GoNano nano-particles are small enough to penetrate deep into the concrete’s pore structure and form a permanent hydrophobic (water-repelling) molecular bond inside the material. Water can no longer enter the pores — it beads on the surface and runs off. The bond doesn’t peel, flake, or wear away.

GoNano is backed by $1M+ in independent testing by UL (Underwriters Laboratories) and IBHS (Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety).

GoNano concrete treatment works on virtually any concrete or masonry surface, including: driveways, sidewalks and walkways, patios, garage floors, foundation walls, steps, commercial parking lots, and loading areas. It works on both concrete and asphalt surfaces.
No. GoNano concrete treatment is essentially invisible — it does not alter the appearance, color, or texture of your concrete surface. The protection happens at the molecular level inside the material, so your driveway looks exactly the same after treatment as before.

Wood Sealants

Why does my deck look gray and worn so fast in Wisconsin?
Two things are working against your deck simultaneously: UV radiation breaks down the lignin (the natural binder that holds wood fibers together), turning the wood gray and brittle. At the same time, moisture from rain, snow, and morning dew enters the wood’s pores, and Wisconsin’s freeze-thaw cycles expand and contract that moisture — splitting fibers and accelerating rot. Surface stains slow this process temporarily but can’t stop it long-term because they don’t penetrate deeply enough.

Surface stains and sealers sit on the wood and need to be reapplied every 1–2 years. Each restaining cycle also requires sanding, which removes a thin layer of wood — meaning after 5–6 cycles, you’ve worn down your deck boards and are facing full replacement regardless.

GoNano bonds chemically with the wood fibers at a cellular level, creating a permanent hydrophobic barrier from the inside out. It also stabilizes lignin to stop UV graying and eliminates the moisture conditions that allow mold, mildew, and rot to develop. It is a one-time treatment — not the start of a new maintenance cycle.

GoNano works on virtually any exterior wood surface, including: decks and patios, fences, wood siding, pergolas, exterior trim, wooden staircases, dock boards, outbuildings, sheds, barns, and commercial or agricultural wood structures. It works on rough-sawn and finished wood, and on all common species including cedar, pine, pressure-treated lumber, and hardwoods.
No. GoNano wood treatment is invisible — it penetrates the wood fibers without leaving a visible film, color, or sheen on the surface. Your deck, fence, or siding looks the same after treatment as before. The protection is working from the inside.

Process, Pricing & Getting Started

What happens during a free evaluation?
Derek will visit your property and conduct a thorough visual assessment of the surface you’re concerned about — whether that’s your roof, driveway, deck, or all three. He’ll look at the specific conditions that affect GoNano eligibility, explain what he’s seeing in plain language, and tell you honestly whether treatment is the right answer for your situation.

If GoNano is a good fit, you’ll receive a written estimate on the spot. If it’s not, he’ll tell you that too — clearly and without pressure. The evaluation is completely free and carries no obligation to proceed.
We strive to schedule free evaluations within 3 business days of your request. For urgent situations — such as an active home sale or an insurance deadline — call Derek directly at (920) 810-2621 and we’ll do our best to accommodate your timeline.
Yes. Many NanoShield customers treat their roof, driveway, and deck in a single visit — which is often the most efficient and economical approach.
